Making MCC Effective for YOU
I thought it would be cool to put together a list of things people can do to make MCC more effective. I didn't include the obvious (go to events and spend time online in the list, but they should be mentioned). It would be great if you would share your thoughts so please do.
1. Most important- put up a photo. Whether you have or haven't completed your profile, people won't look without a photo. Here are some reasons why it is a necessity-
A. We do business with people. Adding a photo of you humanizes you.
B. It helps us find you if we recently met. There are lots of people with similar names, but we all have unique faces.
C. Our site allows people to search only the profiles that have photos. 90% of the people we have surveyed select that option.
2. Fill out your profile. Tell us about who you are and what you do. Include interests, hobbies, where you went to school and specialties. Networking is all about common ground.
3. Tell us how we can help you. Define your ideal client, business partner or perfect next job. The more specific you are, the more likely we are to connect you. This is far more effective if you have offered how you can help us too.
4. Add your contact information. If we don't know how to easily reach you, we may pass that referral to someone else.
5. Join the discussion board. There are almost 2000 conversations at www.motorcityconnect.com, one of them is bound to be right for you. This is a great opportunity to let us hear your virtual voice and have people reach out to you. Pay special attention to the ask board.
6. Check the calendar(s). The main calendar offers over 15 events per month all over the Detroit area where you meet new people, learn skills and grow your business. The secondary calendar (located under the "important" tab listed as "networking events" is a place where you can share your events and learn about all kinds of things going on. To share your event send details to motorcityconnect@gmail.com.
7. Connect with any of the area connectors. All of them would be happy to help you. We hope these tips add value.
8. Use the search feature. You can type in a city, profession or person's name. The results can amaze you.
9. Show up on the front page- when you RSVP to an event, or add a personal objective or start or contribute to a discussion- your picture and a link to your profile show up on the front page.
10. Take a look at the premium memberships. The value is far more than the cost by design.
We hope these tips add value. Do let us know what we can do to make today better for you.
Tell us what tips you would like to share.

First I LOVE MCC and am excited we are beginning a chapter in Commerce!! Please come out and join us!! Maybe we can do a meetig on a boat this summer!
Re: How to improve MCC . . . I'd like to see an opportunity to advertise. I'd like to eventually play my video link www.youtube.com/empowermind on the front page for a few weeks or intorduce people to my free learning tips blog. But I don't want to always be pushing it in any posts or discussions.
I also would like to have a wall like facebook vs. what happens now. Everytime someone comments on something from 4 months ago, I still get an e-mail on it. I have WAY too many e-mails as it is--like most of us do. If we had a page to go to, we could check on the additional comments to the discussion or subject when we feel like it or ignore it. I don't want to discuss or post anymore, because I'm inundated with too many e-mails on something I just made a comment on. The irony is I am posting right now! LOL!
See you in Walled Lake at the Big Boy 8:00 April 17
Another reason to post on the discussion boards: You know the axiom "People do business with people they know, like and trust"? Well, posting on the discussion boards is a great way for people to get to know you. Don't just talk about your business, or your ask (of course, do those things, but not exclusively).
In my posts, I mostly don't talk about my business. I respond to things that interest or intrigue me or on subject matters where I feel I have something to say. But every post I make gives you a sense of me. Who I am, what interests me, what I'm like, how I view the world, what's important to me, etc.
The sense of me that you leave with, as I post not just once but often, lets you know if I'm someone you can know, like and trust. What is it the social media gurus talk about? An online presence. Posting often here gives you that.
Hi Natalie!
Yes, I understand that. :) GREAT points! And, for me, that's what I use Twitter, Linkedin and Face book to do. I want a NEW additional draw to MCC. I want more than people getting to know what I'm doing, what I like and don't like. I feel I need more purpose. When Terry wrote the discussion about spiritual connection with MCC, my heart went, "BINGO!!" That's it! That's the purpose for my being active in discussion and in MCC in general.
I know we all come with different needs and I so honor that. The more diverse of an audience that can be served and meet their personal and/or business needs the better. It's all good!
Thanks for your reply to my reply.:) I hope to see you at an MCC function!
