SOUND THE ALARM. Are we on MCC what we SAY we are?

Are we the civic-minded, charitable contributors that we claim to be?

Here's what I'm involved in.  Joseph Penrod was diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy in early 2008.  His parents, naturally devastated by this news, decided not to take it sitting down, and have begun an earnest partnership with the Muscular Dystrophy Association to increase funding for research on the disease in hopes of finding a cure.

The primary fundraiser for the newly created TeamJoseph - Whatever It Takes, is a benefit concert at the Fillmore Theatre (formerly the State), on February 5, 2009.  There are 3 LOCAL musical acts (Hush, JoCaine & HotSauce, something for everyone) performing at the benefit plus DJ Invisible.

There are various ticket levels for sale for this all-ages show, including a VIP ticket which will provide not only a strolling dinner from local restaurants such as Andiamo, PF Chang, Big Rock & Chen Chow, but a GREAT networking opportunity for like minded charitable givers for a VERY economical price.

I am AWED by the hard work that Joseph's mom Marissa has put into making her son's illness a lightning rod for the community, I am BLOWN AWAY by the generosity of the local muscial community, whom have rallied around this benefit, and I am HOPEFUL that my friends and my on-line community will join me to prove that MCC is what we say we are.

Tickets go on sale at livenation.com on 12/19, and, for those of you on Facebook, there is an event to search on called "Hush & Friends, Jammin' for Joseph and the MDA"...let's show our support and make this a networking opportunity within the event for MCC participants.  I sound the challenge this morning!

Happy Holidays!

Roger

What are the ticket prices for the event? I would love to attend this event Roger and thanks for bringing it to Motor City Connect and my attention!

Keith Stonehouse

Roger-

Thanks for bringing this up. I hope TeamJoseph continutes to find succsess in their endeavors and that the concert becomse fundraising lore!

Having done a few "Calling our MCC Cars" in my days here, I have learned to rely on the acronym: SW3N:

Some Will. Some Won't. So What. NEXT!

I am not sure who originated that, but it is very important to keep in mind especially when selling (yes, even fundraising is selling).

The people who like music or know folks who are or have been affected by MD will gladly support the cause. Parents who have gone through similar tragedies or folks who have grown up with disabilities may join too. You will also find people who really believe they can make a difference (Mr. Stonehouse) will support you too.

Ultimately, you will discover exactly what John Assaraf told me when he came to speak at our group last April: "The people who are here are exactly the right people to be here."

The right peopel will be at the event and they will be supporting it. Best of luck to you and they.

Thanks-

Terry Bean

I like it.  Easy to remember.  Consider it done.  Thanks Terry
