Thank You Rick Reid for introducing me to Cornerstone Schools
Its always the littlest things that touch us the most. Although I was running late for my 11:00, I was really happy I parked so far away. It gave me the chance to walk back through the lunch room. Unlike on the way in, this lunchroom was packed with kids that couldn't have been older than 7. As I slowed my pace to take it all in before leaving I heard the words that will echo in my head throughout time- "hi partner". And then three other children burst into waving and saying the same.
There's just something about cute kids with innocent eyes smiling at me that makes me melt. I'm sure I am not the only one.
Cornerstone is a school system that is changing the way education is delivered in Detroit. I was there to experience it and experience it I did. From the violin and choir concert to spending time with Chase, the 6th grade boy whose normal "partner" didn't show up to that wonderful walk back through the lunchroom.
There is a buzz in the school on partner day. The kids know that adults are coming to spend a couple of hours with them and work on a project or two. It is a great experience to be able to share that energy and share that time. As I understand it, Partner days happen quarterly.
When you get a chance, take a look at the impressive time line.
I am looking forward to be inviting back to partner day in march. Anyone want to join me?
Be connected-
Terry Bean

I have been a Cornerstone partner for 5 plus years. Its been a highly rewarding experience. As a matter of fact, my Cornerstone partner is one of two 8 graders being considered for Cranbrook...Wow! If you believe in changing the way Detroit works and the way inner city Detroit kids view the region at large, this program does nothing but build partner relationships and the outlook of a whole generation of young people via their partner relationships. Check it out! As the billboards on the freeway say, "Changing Detroit, One child at a time".
