We, at www.BuyMichiganNow.com, are working on our suggestions for great Michigan-made gifts, and I'd love to have some helpful hints. If you make a product or have a favorite we should know about, please let me know. We are looking gifts ideal for kids or adults, men or women, old or young, republican or democrat, yada yada. No product is too big or too small, so long as it comes from the Great Lake State. So, what are your favs?

There are two places that are absolutely fantastic. Both have michigan made items from locals artisans:
Art-Rageous Gallery in Mt Clemens features a wide variety fine art, hand made by local artists and Talula's Home Garden and Gifts in Clinton Twp which actively promotes Michigan made products and Artisans.
Lisa,
Try the Bullfrog Candle Co. in Charlevoix MI.
I ran into this or a similar sounding candle company in St. Charles MI back in the mid 80's. They may have moved to Charlevoix. Anyway they make nice candles.

Hi Lisa-
I love the following companies-
Germack- especially their Cherry Berry Mix
Detroit Popcorn- boy, their carmel corn with nuts is great
Elwin's Fresh Scones (Berkley, MI)- freshest and best tasting!
Bonnie's Kitchen (Bloomfield Hills)-Her daily, fresh baked cookies were selected by the PGA (30,000 a day) as part of the local cusine provided in the hospitality tents. Her daily food offerings and catering services are outstanding. And, her expresso chocolate chip shortbread cookies dipped in choclate make your filings fall out!
Westborn Market, Papa Joes, Nino Salvaggio and Plum Market-four locally based food purveyors that have the greatest selection of Michigan grown products
Zingerman's- from their Bakehouse, Creamery, Deli, resturants and Mail Orders- a $33 million dollar a year business. Add in Morley Candy (who also owns Sanders)-
Consider American Spoon Foods, Food for Thought and other Northern MI businesses- unique items.
Faygo pop, Vernors- who doesn't think about a Vernors with vanilla ice cream?
Ray's Ice Cream in Royal Oak- OMG- their homemade ice cream (my personal fav Peppermint stick Ice cream covered in Sanders Hot Fudge )- and the molded ice creams like a Peach with Peach Melba liquor inside. I went to a summer wedding and they served molded "fruits" out of ice cream on toothpicks as a part of the dessert- it was perfect for a hot summer day.
Champagne Chocolates- two locations, one in Mt. Clemens and a small retail location in Birmingham- their hand dipped truffles are so special, I always try to get them into hospitality bags for out of town guests.
Heartwear Designs- Marcie is a bench jeweler with her husband. They make most of their jewelery.
Look at Wachler Jewelers as well- been a fixture in the MI area for jewelry for several generations and still going strong.
This is just the start of my list....Lisa
Andi's Candies are amazing gifts! Check out W. Bloomfield Eccentric 11/27/08 article....Front Page! Andi's Candies are prepared in a culinary facility in Madison Heights and are sold throughout the U.S. at andiscandies.com. The candies and specialty gift baskets can be used for business incentives, holiday gifts, parties, weddings, thank you gifts and more. Andi's Candies also offers your logo or photo on chocolate.
Just So! Jewelry from Brighton has some great pieces. All are created and crafted locally. They feature quality (semi-precious), affordable, unique items. www.justso.us, for a complete line of products available to order from the website. I have gone into their store and purchased pieces off the shelf. Other times I have said I like this, but can we change the color, size, etc., and they have made changes on the spot and I've worn it out of the store. Monica and Denise are the points of contact there, and they are great!
We are three Michigan parents who created 'Remember When' software to help preserve day to day memories. We were inspired by the funny things our kids say, but this gift is good for anyone who wants an easy way to capture life's little moments. Check it out at http://www.mymemorytreasures.com/
All great suggestions!
What about a KitchenAid Mixer for your favorite chef? I believe KitchenAid is based out of St Joseph, Michigan?

I love seeing a lovely "growler" of Michigan-made brewpub ale waiting under the tree. You can get a half-gallon of take-away from the brewpub and it is best drunk up right away.
With so many wonderful pubs in state that make brew on premises, buying in-state product is easy. My particular local favorite is the Belgian-style Trippel from Bastone on Main in Royal Oak.
For additional ideas contact/visit Talula's Home Garden and Gifts in Clinton Twp (NW Corner of 15 Mile & Groesbeck).
The owner Scott Behlow actively promotes Michigan made products and Artisans. There are many Michigan made items for sale here. The Boutique is also available for meetings and parties.
Very charming and classy atmosphere. One of Macomb Counties best kept secrets.
Great Christmas gift idea Rick!!
My husband makes hand made writing pens and pencils, wood bowls, pepper grinders, and Fishing Poles. Any wood, any plastic...from about $20 up for pens, grinders, bowls, fishing poles are much higher than that and depends on style, etc.
Michigan made here in Sterling Heights. Our website is still in progress, www.callycreations.com. Happy to send you pictures of current stock or ideas! He also makes wood bowls, pepper grinders, etc.
I make bears and jewelry. We have you covered!!!
Hey, you never know! Roberta
For the fisherman on your list check out sunfishwoodworks.com . Bob Batchik is an amazing artist and woodcarver with some very unique work.
My brother Timothy Young has a company in northern Michigan called Food for Thought. His website is www.foodforthought.net. His gift boxes are beautiful for gift giving and he ships anywhere. Following is a description of what he does. He LOVES Michigan. I may be prejudiced but they are phenomenal!
Food For Thought was founded on a mission to raise awareness around just and sustainable food in 1995. They are based on an organic farm outside Traverse City and housed in a green built building utilizing solar energy. Their preserves are out of this world, touting flavors like Blueberry Lavender, Cherry Cabernet, Apricot Chardonnay and Strawberry Basil. All are certified organic as well as the first and only Fair Trade certified preserves in the country. Their Cherry Salsa Atento was featured on the Food Network this year and was chosen "Best Salsa" by Vegetarian Times Magazine. Most impressively is that they have a "local at any cost" purchasing policy which assures that local and Michigan farmers are supported first. So if you are looking to find the most healthy, sustainable and just gifts that also support Michigan's economy, there's likely no better choice in the state.

Awesome responses!! Thank you all for the great suggestions. We have completed this year's Holiday Gift Guide and it will be on the site later today www.BuyMichiganNow.com. Many of the MCC ideas have been incorporated, others are now on my personal shopping list, and they are all now on our radar screen for future reference. It's early in the holiday shopping process though, so keep the ideas coming to help us all Think Michigan First during this critical buying season.
