Looking for an event venue

I am looking for a venue for HAVEN's signature fundraiser - Promenade of Hope.

The event -

Is on May 7th 2009
Raises approx $200,000 each year for our services

The facility must

Fit 300+ - and have room for silent/live auction.  Dinner is strolling.
Cost must be no more than $25,000 total for the facility and food/rental costs
Be ideally within Oakland County (and easy access off a highway if possible)
Be unique - Think outside of the box  - last year's event was at the Detroit Media Partnership (News/Freep) building, 2007 at LaSalle HQ and 2005 at Compuware. We can do an old house, empty warehouse, corporate site, golf course - as long as they fit the criteria above.

and bonus if it can somehow fit w/ a Wizard of Oz - "there's no place like HAVEN" theme.

I need your help and suggestions! I'll even take you to lunch if we use your idea (that's the best bribe I can come up with...)

I attended a nice event for the Oakland Land Conservancy last year at the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center, www.bbartcenter.org .  Interesting art displays, multiple interconnected rooms, outdoor terrace if weather permits.  And it is easy to adapt an art gallery for almost any theme.

Tracy, thanks for all that you and HAVEN do to help individuals and families in our area. I volunteered with the HAVEN, and I know people who benefited from your services, so thanks again!

Tracy, I will do some checking as to interesting venues for HAVEN's upcoming event. I will be happy to talk to some of my fellow marketing/public relations colleagues for any ideas they may have. Also, my brother's in commercial/industrial real estate, so he may know of available buildings in the area to consider.

Following, are a couple of event ideas that entered my mind: For your Wizard of Oz, "There's No Place Like Haven" theme, you may want to create a yellow brick road leading to your silent auction. It also may be fun to auction off a designer pair of red pumps (Dorothy clicking her heels together...)

I will be in touch!

My best,    Anahid

What about the lobby of the Southfield Town Center or the Southfield Public Library? I'm not sure the Library is big enough.   Or the lobby of the Comerica Building?

Good Luck!

Tracy,

There's a new multi-tenant non-profit center that just opened in West Bloomfield.  It's called, "The Corners," and in addition to housing some wonderful programs, it is a full conference and event center.  The rental concept is very new - instead of paying for space, you pay for time.  So, an evening event may only cost a few hundred bucks for the space.

The Corners is newly renovated and has a multi-purpose room for a 300-person event (sound system, video system, etc.), a gymnasium, board rooms and classrooms, full catering - plenty of space for your event.

You can go to www.thecorners.org to see more, or contact me for more information.

Tracy,

Furniture Bank of Southeast Michigan has a similar event every year. We do a strolling Dinner,  a silent auction and a live auction. The best venue we have found is 30 North. It is an old Bank that has been converted to a hall. It is located at 30 North Saginaw in Pontiac.

Hello i beleive i have the answer for your solution it's not much but i am hosting my Charity event here. The location is 15000 Southfield Rd Bushnell Hall i can provide the space and food if your interested you can check out my website http://www.freewebs.com/johnr48089/  I have pictures and a full meneu to choose from.

Hello Tracy,

I am not sure that they are still doing it, but if not, ask anyway as you are worthy of an exception. Try the Parade Company. www.theparade.org .

They were renting party space amongst the props ( giant heads, floats, etc) so that could be a great venue for OZ!

I just last week looked to see about events and at one time remember that they were pushing space rental. Couldn't find it this go-round. But give it a shot. Most definitely outside the box!

I like Jill's idea of the Parade Company. They have some excellent space on Woodward in downtown Detroit, formerly Mark England de Mode's store. I worked on the Bow Wow Gala there which was a benefit for the Humane Society. If you are seeking talent I'd love to be involved with a HAVEN event.
