It's time to grow the network
When you look at all the people you have met in your life: school, college, sports teams, friends of family, houses of worship, work, friends of kids and the list goes on...How do you fit them into your network? Is it safe to assume that you have forgotten about more people than you currently connect with on an annual basis?
What if you could change that starting now?
Never in your life has it been so easy to get and stay connected with people. There are so many tools with which to do that. Which ones do you use? Better yet, which ones do you share with your friends and colleagues? Can I make a request of you? Will you please invite 3-5 people who you know would find value from our group? Simply send an e-mail and ask them to check out www.motorcityconnect.com. It's that easy.
You may already realize that as our network grows, your network grows. I hope you are using this tool to its fullest. If you have any questions on how to make better use of it, please reach out to Charlie, the Technology Advisory Team or myself (our contact info is on the home page) at anytime.
Are you bringing new opportunities to the people in your network? It's important to feed your network.
Are you bringing new people to your network? It's important to grow your network.
Let's all commit to doing both TODAY.
Leveraging the relationships you have to create the relationships you need is one of the most important things you can do for your business right now. Please join us in doing so.
A quick ask: If you have a personal friend/relative at any of the major news or business publications, I would really appreciate an introduction. I think we have an amazing story and as I mentioned earlier, IT'S TIME TO GROW THE NETWORK.

Hi Terry! As part of my marketing/public relations role is acquiring news coverage for my clients, I would be happy to consider who to introduce to MCC and to also make some introductions...and also perhaps I can pitch some stories!
You may also want to consider inviting the various news media to be part of MCC! Why not?!
I would be happy also to guide/coach MCC in effectively acquiring news coverage/publicity. It will be essential to strategize news angles/ideas that are edgy, "now", and will capture the media's attention and inspire them to feature MCC.
While social networking is a hot topic these days, it will be important to take deeper steps into this topic, perhaps featuring MCC members who have experienced success in the program, highlight areas of MCC that reflect key benefits/value of participating, and piggybacking on upcoming local/national/international happenings so as to present newsworthy, timely/current, and local news angles to the media and their readers, listeners, viewers.
We've been planning to meet, so feel free to call/email me and we'll get together soon!
My best, Anahid
Thanks Anahid.
I think there are some very cool angles that are forthcoming. I am very interested in talking strategy and connections with you.
Have a great day.
Terry
We should never underestimate the power of our words. A simple "That's great!" can launch an inniative, and telling someone "That will never work." can kill it. Let's all say "That's great!" to Terry and follow up with an MCC collaborative effort to brainstorm how we can get the kind of media attention to highlight the efforts of MCC and enhance the group efforts to bolster the collective attitude of Detroit area businesses, and eliminate negatives that hinder forward movement.
There are group members in publishing, Anahid used to work for WXYZ and Lynn has numerous media connections and they have always been ready to lend a hand. If you don't have connections you do have a mind and you can use it to help the group with creative suggestions. We all have something to offer and no matter how little you may think it is if you put the collective resources of ideas, hands on help and connections together how powerfull do you think MCC can become.
The more universally known MCC becomes as an agent for helping people and businesses realize their goals and helping the community as a agent for good, the more effective we can be at raising the business spirit of our community. If MCC can be recognized as a successfull agent for fostering business and community change and a recognized agent for fostering Detroit and Michigan Pride we all benifit from something I'll call "success by association."
If you are a member of a recognized catalyst for good, whether it be in business or maybe even personal efforts do you think it might impact your chances that prospective clients and customers might want to meet with you? "Success by association," can help pave the way to numerous business successes. Even if the only reason a potential client wants to talk to you is because they are interested in the group, is it not every person here's goal to get the face-to-face with their prospect?
Let's become the recognized network leader in Detroit and beyond, let's become the group where "success by association" becomes the catalyst that helps us realize business successes we might not realize otherwise and let's become a catalyst for lifting the collective spirits of our community.
Let's start with a hearty "that's great Terry" and start suggesting strategies or making connections to help Terry get the word out. We're also helping ourselves.
That's Great Duane!
Seriously, love this post. I especially like your last line.
"We're also helping ourselves"
As soon as I hit send on the origininal post I wanted to take it back. I had entitled it "It's time to grow the network." Truth is, a better title would have been "It's time to grow OUR network". And the best title may have been "It's time to grow YOUR network". All our true.
So thanks for the responses I have gotten thusfar and I am looking forward to the progress this will help us all make.
Enjoy this beautiful day. I am off to the "Green Out" at Spartan Stadium. If OSU travels as well as they normally do and has a "red out" it will look like Xmas in the stadium.
